About Us

The Capilano Group of Companies (CGC) comprises retail, hospitality and tourism based businesses anchored by Vancouver's popular tourist attraction, Capilano Suspension Bridge (CSB). CGC's diverse portfolio includes two accommodation properties in the Canadian Rockies, two retail gift shops in BC and Alberta and several food and beverage facilities. CGC is currently developing an exciting property on Mackenzie Beach in Tofino, B.C.

Native Vancouverite Nancy Stibbard purchased CSB in 1983 and has spearheaded the attraction's development and phenomenal increase in attendance over the past twenty years. Nancy's commitment to exceeding guest expectations and providing truly memorable experiences is the service promise on which the CGC is founded. All of the organization's marketing, administrative and financial activities are conducted from its headquarters at the Suspension Bridge location. CGC employs over two hundred people seasonally in addition to the over two hundred year-round positions. Students receive exceptional training and, on average, return for three seasons.

Nancy Stibbard's vision for the CGC is to create experiences that people are amazed by. Following on her success at CSB, she has created and developed premium tourism related properties in truly unmatched natural settings.

Nancy purchased Moraine Lake Lodge (www.morainelake.com) in 1991 and invited celebrated Canadian architect, Arthur Erickson to create a new timber and glass retreat on the shores of the stunning turquoise waters of Moraine Lake in Banff National Park. Moraine Lake is a popular day-trip destination included on every itinerary to the Lake Louise area. There are 33 rooms in the spectacular lodge and cabins; each one nestled amidst towering evergreens with unique views of the mountains or lake.

CGC purchased Cathedral Mountain Lodge (www.cathedralmountain.com) in 2001 and immediately set about building additional log cabins and renovating the existing cabins to CGC standards. Beautifully situated in a dense forest on the edge of the Kicking Horse River, Mount Stephen and Cathedral Mountain loom above Cathedral Mountain Lodge and its cabins. A brand new lodge, reflecting the majesty of its surroundings, opened in 2006. In the heart of the Canadian Rockies in Yoho National Park, Cathedral Mountain Lodge is abundant in its offerings of outdoor activities, scenic vistas and first class comfort.

CGC has spent ten years searching for the perfect oceanfront property on the wild West Coast of Vancouver Island. In 2004 Nancy acquired a ten-acre parcel on spectacular McKenzie Beach in Tofino, BC, with a vision to create a unique architectural experience providing up to 60 lodge rooms and a number of private cabins throughout the forested property.

The success of the Trading Post Gift Shop at CSB has led to opening Moraine Lake Trading at Moraine Lake Lodge. Both beautiful stores are located in key visitor locations. Each offers a unique collection of souvenirs, handcrafted Canadian gifts and jewelry, brand-name clothing and outerwear and original First Nations art.

CGC is founded on the values of Safety, Show and Stewardship and recognized worldwide for guest service that is second to none. Guest and team member Safety is paramount within the organization and factors into all decision making. Nancy's belief in a complete and seamless experience is translated into Show as each property displays an uncompromising commitment to theme and attention to detail. Stewardship is demonstrated in CSB's environmental management plans, community relations activities and involvement in the tourism industry.
